Hybrid Pepper Plants Resulting from a cross between C. annuum and C. pubescens

License Royalty Rate:  3%

Abstract:  The present invention relates to novel methods of producing interspecific hybrids between C. annuum and C. pubescens and progeny thereof. In addition, the present invention provides for the hybrid pepper plants, and parts thereof including their fruit, tissues, and seeds, resulting from a cross between C. annuum and C. pubescens that have nuclear genetic material from both C. annuum and C. pubescens. The hybrid pepper plants of the invention may have a variety of traits including resistance to geminiviruses, tobamoviruses, and resistance to damage by Xanthomonas.

Compositions and Methods for Assaying Markers Tightly Linked to Resistance Locus Bs2 of Pepper

License Royalty Rate:  3%

Abstract:  The invention relates to compositions and methods for genotypically screening pepper lines for the presence of a polymorphism at the Bs2_5859 locus genetically linked to the Bs2 gene conferring resistance to Bacterial Spot caused by Xanthomonas campestris. Further provided are methods for producing plants displaying Bs2-mediated resistance, and fruit and seeds therefrom.

PmMoV Resistant Capsicum Plants

License Royalty Rate:  3%

Abstract:  The present invention relates to a plant of the Capsicum genus, which plant exhibits resistance to Pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV) pathotype 1.2.3 due to the presence of the L4 resistance allele in the genome of said plant, wherein the genetic information responsible for the SNFD phenotype is absent from or is repressed in the genome of said plant at least to such an extent that the SNFD phenotype is not expressed. The present invention further relates to a method of producing a plant of the Capsicum genus that exhibits resistance to PMMoV pathotype 1.2.3, comprising the steps of a) providing a recipient plant of the Capsicum genus that is susceptible to PMMoV pathotype 1.2.3 or a part thereof, and b) introducing into the genome of said recipient plant or a part thereof or a progeny plant thereof a genomic region comprising a truncated L4 resistance allele, wherein said allele comprises genetic information capable of being expressed in said plant or plant part or progeny plant thereby conferring resistance to PMMoV pathotype 1.2.3 to said plant or plant part or progeny plant, and wherein genetic information that confers the SNFD phenotype is absent from said allele at least to such an extent that the SNFD phenotype is not expressed.
